Spasmobronchal is a veterinary medicine produced by Boehringer Ingelheim, indicated for the treatment of respiratory diseases in horses suffering from bronchospasms, such as subacute and chronic bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Its formulation contains clenbuterol hydrochloride, a β2-sympathomimetic agent that acts as a bronchodilator, facilitating breathing and relieving symptoms such as coughing and dyspnea.

Composition:

• Clenbuterol Hydrochloride: 0.03 mg/ml

Indications:

• Adjunctive treatment for respiratory conditions with bronchospasm, including:
  • Subacute and chronic bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Preventive use in animals with predictable hypersensitivity reactions to specific allergens

Administration and Dosage:

• Route of administration: Intravenous
• Recommended dosage: 0.8 µg of clenbuterol hydrochloride per kg of body weight, equivalent to 2.7 ml per 100 kg of body weight.
  • For an adult horse weighing approximately 500 kg, administer 13.5 ml of the injectable solution.
  • The dose should be given twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening.
  • Treatment duration: An average of 10 days, with a minimum of 5 days recommended.

Precautions:

• Pregnant mares: Treatment should be stopped 1–2 days before the expected foaling date, as clenbuterol can inhibit uterine contractions.
• Milk excretion: Clenbuterol is excreted in milk, so foals should not be fed milk from treated mares.
• Avoid simultaneous use with other sympathomimetics, corticosteroids, and phosphodiesterase inhibitors due to the risk of additive effects.
• Anesthesia interactions: Concomitant administration with anesthetics such as halothane and cyclopropane may lead to cardiac rhythm alterations.
• Beta-blockers may counteract the effects of clenbuterol.

Side Effects:

• Increased sweating
• Mild tachycardia
• Hypotension
• Restlessness
• Muscle tremors

Reporting adverse effects is important for ongoing safety monitoring. Any observed side effects should be reported to the veterinarian or relevant authorities.
